The Olivier Awards 2019 - 4 things we are looking foreward to.

The Laurence Olivier Awards 2019, short Olivier Awards, will take place on Sunday, April 7th, 2019 at the Royal Albert Hall. This is one of the most glamourous nights in theatre and just like millions of other fans we are looking forward to this event.
The nominees were announced early March and the most nominations has got “Come from Away”.
This musical is set a week after the attacks on September 11th and based on the true story of what transpired when 38 planes were ordered to land unexpectedly in the small town of Gander in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, as part of Operation Yellow Ribbon.
Here are the five reasons (amongst many more) why we will be watching.

1. Jason Manford is the host

He is a British comedian, tv presenter and radio presenter. He has made us laugh for a long time and has been on tour with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He has hosted the awards in 2017 and we are happy that he has been asked to return.

2. Matthew Bourne will receive special award

Matthew Bourne Olivier Awards

Sir Matthew Bourne was knighted in 2016 for services to dance and now the Society of London will also recognize his achievements. officially. After eight Olivier Awards he is now the recipient of the Society of London Theatre Special Award. His production of Swan Lake is featured in the movie Billy Elliot, it is certainly one of the most famous productions.
I mean, who wasn’t mesmerized during the end scene when Billy Elliot takes the stage as a male swan?

3. Best actor nominees

David Suchet Ian McKellen

We admit it: Usually it is very clear to us who should win an Olivier Award, but this year here are so many wondeful production all very deserving of this honor. This years nominees for Best Actor are

  • Simon Russell Beale, Adam Godley and Ben Miles as Henry Lehman, Emanuel Lehman and Mayer Lehman in The Lehman Trilogy – National Theatre Lyttelton

  • Arinzé Kene as Arinzé in Misty – Trafalgar Studios 1

  • Ian McKellen as Lear in King Lear – Duke of York's Theatre

  • Kyle Soller as Eric Glass in The Inheritance – Young Vic and Noël Coward Theatre

  • David Suchet as Gregory Solomon in The Price – Wyndham's Theatre

Again, every one of these actors is deserving of the win. However, we must admit that David Suchet and Ian McKellen hold very special places in our hearts. We are sure glad, that we don’t have to make the decision, who will win. Did you see the plays? Who is on your list?

4. The fashion

Imogen Poots chose a Valentino gown, Laura Pradelska walked the red carpet in a cream creation by Lesley de Freitas, Kara Tointon opted for a flowery Blumarine gown and Summer Strallen wore a gorgeous gown by Malan Breton

It is save to say, that on a night like the Olivier Awards, attendees and nominees will contenplate what to wear. In the end they get dressed up, polish the jewels and step on the red carpet. Watching the arrivals on the red carpet and seeing what the ladies are wearing is one of our favorite parts of an award show.
Who will shine this year?
